Servant Saturday

Wow. Just Wow.  God is truly amazing, like make me cry like a baby amazing.  22 of us met at the Family Life Center for Servant Saturday and broke into three teams.

Team Collin stayed at the church and help set up for church and prepare for the Kid's Choir performance of 'A King is Coming to Town'.  They then went and helped do some cleanup at a home near the church.

Team Rachel went to The Home Depot, where they were blessed with 10, yes 10, trees that were donated so that we could bless 10 families that could not have been able to buy their own tree.  They also picked up tree stands, decorations and lights for each tree and headed out to Linda to meet up with Team Brent.

Team Brent left and headed out to the District 10 area where we worked on doing some clean up for a grateful older man.  We weeded, cut the grass and trimmed hedges.  We even spotted a little snake in his yard.

Team Brent finished up and headed to Linda to meet up with Team Rachel.  Together we went to Beale Starr Apartments to follow God's Direction and seek out families that needed Christmas Trees.  Each family was given a Tree with stand and a bag that had some decorations and lights to go with the tree.  Teams went and knocked on doors seeking families, and soon we were handing out trees to those who needed them.

"We did not just deliver a tree, we delivered Christmas. We game them ornaments, lights and candy canes. But the most important thing we gave them was Jesus. Seeing the smiles of the hearts of hurting people made my heart smile. And Following the way of the Lord deepened my Relationship with him just a little bit more."

It is truly amazing what God will do when his people are willing to sacrifice a few hours on a Saturday.  Imagine just how much we will do when we spend over a week with our Hearts and Hands ready for God to work in Brasil.

Our Second Meeting

Bom Dia!

So we have now met twice for meetings, we have began raising funds and are slowing working towards growing together as a team.  A team of Disciples.  Heidi and Brent have been working on the dates for our trip, trying to find the best deal on the travel accomodations.  The current dates have been updated on the 'Important Dates' page.

We have also begun learning some helpful phrases to begin communicating with our friends in Brasil.

  • Bom Dia!          --Pronounced Bohn Gee-ah               is Good Morning!
  • Tudu Bem?       --Pronounced Too-doo Bane             is How are you?
  • Obrigado/a       --Pronounced Oh-bree-gah-doo        is Thank you
  • Tchau!              --Pronounced Chow!                        is Good Bye!
Be sure to use your new Portuguese whenever possible, it will be very helpful when we are trying to talk with  the people we meet in Brasil.

As we wrapped up the meeting we began to meet some of our Teammates and learn some interesting facts about each other.  We will finish those at the next meeting so be sure to bring them in your new binders!

Dont forget to work on raising funds and getting your Passports.  There are links on the right that will take you to the Passport website for information, as well as a link to Rachel's Email to check your balance if you want to know how much you have in your account.  If you don't use a dedicated Mail Program, e.g. Outlook, you will need to right-click on 'Email Rachel Now' and paste it into your 'To Address.'

Servant Saturday is coming up, Hope to see you there!

Brasil 2013

Welcome Back!

While we've been away from the blog many new adventures have begun.  The biggest of those adventures is that we are preparing for a return trip to Rio!  We met on November 4th and received packets of information as well as our first assignment.

Some of that information is now available through the links on the right side of this very blog beneath the slideshow.  You can download the entire fundraising packet as well as an editable version of the fundraising letter and the accompanying fundraiser slip for your sponsors to send in with their support.

You also can link to the U.S. Department of State's Website and begin the process of getting your passport.

Up above there is a second page with important dates.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Sunday December 2, 2012 from 1:00-2:00 PM in the Choir Room in the Family Life Center at the Yuba City Campus.  Be sure to bring your 'Who Are You' assignment filled out along with any forms and money that needs to be turned in.  Remember, money needs to be in an envelop with your name on it!

Pastor Brent brought the Word.

What a great ending!

Wednesday, July 25

Today was another day of fun! One group went surfing and another went to Belmont Park, where they could go on rides and play laser tag, among other things.

There were a lot of wipe-outs!

And a lot of successes!!

Belmont Park was fun, too!
