Dream Center

Saturday was an exciting day because we all went to the same site as a team. Before this, we had to split up because our group is so large. Today, we went to the Dream Center to participate in Adopt-A-Block. This is a program they do every Saturday. They go to neighborhoods to serve. That may mean cleaning in someone's home, doing yard work, painting, helping kids with homework, etc. Whatever that family needs at that moment. There were a huge amount of people that participated in Adopt-A-Block along with us. The room was packed!

We had an amazing time of prayer before heading out. Many of us were moved deeply by the Holy Spirit. And we were ready to go out and be bold for Christ!

Then we headed to our work site.

There were several work sites and the people split up to go out to serve. Our team went to Nickerson Gardens in Watts. This is the birthplace of the bloods gang. It is the biggest project this side of the Mississippi with 1,100+ units! The police have put surveillance video in the project so they don't have to be in there 24-7. We met a 12-year-old boy named Melvin who said his dream is to grow up and be a hit-man. We watched Denise, our guide from Dream Center, talk him into going to church. It was clear she wasn't going to let him go. She will be working on him until he chooses Christ! And we will be praying for him!! Nickerson Gardens is changing. God is moving.

We knocked on doors to tell people about a back-to-school program kids were invited to at The Dream Center where they could get free backpacks filled with school supplies, haircuts, dental and health care. There will also be games and bounce houses.

Some of our team played with kids at the playground.

Pastor Brent even shared his lunch :)

Saying goodbye was hard for the kids and our team. This little boy, Isaiah, was crying because he didn't want Jessica to leave. I think she felt the same.

Collin helped a little boy "tune" his Cars guitar :)

We ended the day at Nickerson Gardens with prayer.

We know that God is in this place. He is moving and changing hearts in this housing project through the work of The Dream Center.
